The Project Process

Outlined below are typical steps taken in the job process.

Estimating - Pursuant to completed, detailed construction plans and client instructions, our estimating staff can turn out a timely cost estimate and final scope of work ready for contract execution. In preparation to begin construction, our experienced Project Management team will set the wheels in motion for the equipment to arrive on site and guide your project from start to finish.

(2)
Surveying - The in-house survey/engineering group can provide plan review and construction stakeout giving the client an efficient product using the most up-to-date computer models and instrumentation.
Installation of Siltation & Erosion Controls - Our erosion and sediment crews install siltation/stormwater controls in strict accordance with local, state and federal requirements thereby providing the environmental protection necessary today.

(4)
Clearing / Grubbing - Our crews have the most modern equipment available to perform the clearing operations. Annually, S. W. Rodgers Co. will clear more than 1400 acres of land, and recycle 100,000 tons of tree stumps into mulch for landscaping.

Drilling and Blasting - Our drillers and blasters are certified and equipped to prepare each site for excavation, utilities and stormwater management facilities. On average, S. W. Rodgers Co. will blast 750,000 cubic yards of rock annually.

(6)
Concrete / Rock Crushing - In an effort to conserve our natural resources and recycle products in the construction process, S.W. Rodgers has its mobile Rock/Concrete crusher ready and able to provide the customer onsite production, thereby creating an efficient and economical element to the project. S.W. Rodgers has processed over 400,000 tons of concrete and rock for our clients.

Earthwork Excavation - Our excavation crews are repeatedly honored by customers as the most efficient and productive in the region. Our dirt crews will move over 15 million cubic yards in a 12-month period. A new company record was achieved in 2000 by moving 45,000 cubic yards in one day on a single project.

(8)
Rough Grading - Rough grading is the part of the site package that depicts the overall shape and visual concept of the project. Our field superintendents, foremen and operators are particularly aware of producing a site that complies with the plan and looks good.

Utility Installation - From the foremen to the operators to laborers, our pipe crews are a team that work together as a family to install utilities properly at the right grade and produce reasonable results in quantity. One hundred sixty miles of sanitary, water and storm lines are laid in a normal year.
(9)

(10)
Concrete Installation - With our in-house concrete crews, we are able to install curb, gutter and sidewalks in conjunction with the rest of the sitework schedule. Over 75 miles of curb and gutter are poured each year.

Fine Grading / Stone Base - In the final stages of the site development package, our fine grading and stone base crews can begin to show the polishing effect and the image that ultimately is created. We pride ourselves on the "look good" aspects of our work. Last year we laid 800,000 tons of stone for base.

(12)
Asphalt Paving - No matter how large or small the project, we recognize that our customers are invariably anxious to get asphalt paving down. Due to our strong alliances with numerous pavers across the state, our ability to "paint it black" is highly regarded. Annual records show over 400,000 tons placed.

Seeding & Mulching - The final stage of our sitework is seeding, mulching and sod. With our crews we are able to control the timing and help our customers reach final completion as soon as possible...

...Thus making their project marketable to the end users. The untrained eye may never know what it takes to build a quality site, but at the end of a job, it is an honor for us to say, "I helped build this!"
